Egg Donation Process: A Quick Guide

Interested in egg donation but want to know what it involves? Here’s a quick step-by-step overview of the process with Manchester Donors:

Apply online

If you meet the basic criteria – a non-smoker, good health, aged 18-35 - complete our simple online application form. It’s quick and easy.

Come and meet us

We’ll invite you to come to the clinic for an informal chat. We’ll perform some simple initial non-invasive tests, including checking your ovarian reserve to make sure you have enough eggs to be an egg donor.

Consultation

You’ll then meet with one of our consultants who will go through your medical history with you and plan and explain your donation cycle. We’ll also carry out further screening tests including an ultrasound scan.

Counselling

You’ll see one of our donation counsellors, who will take you through the implications of egg donation. This is a vital part of the process and can be carried out at our clinic, or via Skype if that’s more convenient for you.

Writing your donor profile

If all your tests results are clear and you’re happy to proceed, you’ll be asked to write a profile and pen picture to help patients decide if you’re their ideal egg donor. You’ll be added to our egg donor database – you can now be matched to a patient!

Matching and preparation

When you’ve been chosen as someone’s egg donor, we’ll carefully synchronise your donation cycle with the IVF cycle of your recipient. You’ll undergo ovarian stimulation to produce mature eggs, which will be retrieved at exactly the right time so they can be used in your recipient’s treatment.

Egg donation complete

You’ll be supported every step of the way before, during and after donation by our entire team, from our expert Donation Team to our caring fertility nurses, counsellors and consultants. You can find out the outcome of your egg donation including when a baby has been born and its gender. You’ll receive £750 compensation to cover your time and expenses during your donation journey with us.
