Egg Donors: Making a Difference

This information was correct at the time of publishing. It may not reflect our current practices.

More older and infertile women are achieving their dreams of motherhood – and it’s all thanks to egg donors.

More babies are being born to women using donor eggs compared to women having IVF overall, according to latest HFEA data.

And although women over the age of 44 make up the biggest age group using donor eggs, it’s not just older women who need egg donors. 12% of all donor eggs treatment cycles in 2016 were actually for women under the age of 35.

These women won’t have age-related infertility but other reasons to use donor eggs.

Such as previous medical or cancer treatment that’s affected their fertility, or conditions such as Premature Menopause.

Egg donor criteria – success for patients, success for you

It’s great news that egg donors are making such a difference for so many women, in all circumstances. When you donate eggs, it’s reassuring to know that there’s a very good chance you’ll change someone’s life.

It’s why egg donor criteria is so strict. Age and BMI limits, health and fertility checks are in place not to make it difficult to donate eggs, but to ensure that donated eggs always give the best chance of pregnancy for those who need them.

And it’s also to make sure that you have a rewarding and safe egg donation journey. You’ll never be accepted as an egg donor if there’s a chance your own wellbeing could be affected.

It’s why our initial application process is so thorough. So we can make sure you’re suitable for egg donation and are 100% happy with your decision.
