How to Donate Eggs: Getting Started For Egg Donation

This information was correct at the time of publishing. It may not reflect our current practices.

What do you need to do to donate eggs? If you want to be an egg donor, it’s easy to get started with Manchester Donors.

Here’s what you can do to prepare for egg donation, before you apply, which can help make the process simpler for you:

Check egg donor criteria

Did you know that not every woman can be an egg donor? Check our egg donor eligibility criteria first to be sure you meet the requirements such as age – you need to be aged 18-35 – and health.

Stop smoking

If you currently smoke but want to donate eggs, we ask that you stop smoking at least three months before you apply, to give time for the nicotine to clear from your system. Nicotine can negatively affect your fertility.

Optimise your BMI

Egg donors need to be in good health and that includes having a BMI within the normal range. A too high or too low BMI can affect your fertility and also how well you respond to the medications needed for egg donation. Check your BMI here and make changes to your diet if needs be.

Birth control

Check with our team if your current birth control such as an implant could affect egg donation and if there’s anything you need to do.

Gather family medical history

We’ll ask you about your family’s medical history at your doctor consultation, so it helps to be prepared. You need to know – or be able to find out – the medical background of your parents and grandparents. We just need to check that there’s no history of genetic or hereditary conditions in your family that could potentially pose a risk to someone born from your eggs.

Talk to family or friends

It’s good to talk to family and friends about your wishes to be an egg donor, so you can get the support you need. You’ll also receive implications counselling from our professional and friendly counsellors.
